| Diners Club wins Defence Travel Card contract |
| Melbourne, 22 April 2004: Diners Club has successfully won the tender to supply travel card services to the Department of Defence. |
| Defence has become the largest business expense account in Australia following a growing trend within the public sector to move Public Servants to Travel Cards. The move away from travel allowances has been strongly supported by the National Audit Office as a more cost effective, transparent and accountable process to manage travel related expenditure. |
| Market analysts estimate the Defence account to be in excess of four times the size of the next largest travel account in both the private and public sectors and clearly positions Diners Club as the principal supplier of corporate cards at the top end of the Australian corporate card market. Given the number of Defence personnel, the number of travel cards in Defence is likely to reach up to 30,000 cards over the term of the contract. |
| Managing Director of Diners Club, Moray McDonald said the Defence contract was a prized piece of business to add to Diners Club's corporate card client portfolio and was recognition of the charge card's technologies and ongoing commitment to this market. |
| "While we have expanded our Personal Card business with new products over the last six months, in the corporate card market we have been winning and renewing accounts across both the private and public sectors," he said. |
| "As the only company in Australia singularly specialising in the charge card business, we have been able to put a great deal of energy into making it work for our corporate and government customers," he said. |
